Hi, I'm working on a large no-name 80W Chinese laser cutter, hoping to do some maintenance and modifications, and was a little horrified to find it's main on/off switch switched on the neutral side of the supply.
The power path is as follows:
Live supply -> Emergency stop button -> Machine power supplies -> Keyswitch -> Neutral supply
The keyswitch is the main method for turning the machine on and off; the E-stop rarely gets touched. So when the machine is turned off with the key, many of its internal components are sitting at 240VAC (I live in the UK).
I'm considering changing it to put the switch on the live side where I think it belongs, but thought I should first check with you knowledgeable people to make sure there's no defensible reason for keeping the status quo.
