Lightbox advice?

I'd like to make a small (about 10" x 5") lightbox that a cut out graphic. I'll probably make the surface black with a white cutout for the graphic.

Any tips for doing that?

I was thinking about black spray paint on white plexi and then laser cutting off the paint where the content goes. Or maybe glue some thin black plastic to white plexi and then etch that?

I was wondering if the paint would bubble and not look as sharp?

I'm heading to Tap Plastics later today to investigate options , but let me know if any ideas come to mind. Would love to avoid making a few of the inevitable mistakes....
