Definitely a mechanical issue. Maybe the entire stage is crooked? Also the belts on both sides need to be the same tension in a stage like this. If not, then your carriage will be twisted slightly which will cause this. Try marking a line on wood the entire length of the stage and then check to see ...

As stated above you "can't" cut brass with a co2. However you "can't" cut wood with a fibre and I've cut 40mm thick planks in a fibre so... But on my fibre laser I cut 1mm brass around 285mm/sec @ 2kW and stainless at 535mm/sec Probably won't help you alot but it gives you a roug...

You can use Cermark, expensive. There are some others that are being used, but they are very expensive. You can also use anodized aluminum. I have been using CRC Quick Dry Moly lube. Are your mirrors all aligned?Also check your focal lenght.
