Hello, I have a K40 laser cutter that has worked great using inkscape and K40Whisperer since I got it.

I removed the origional base plate (working surface/ bit I place the 3mm MDF on) and installed a new one that I made with adjustable legs.
I wanted to be able to raise the bottom right hand corner as for some reason that spot needed to be higher.

anyway, Ive just turned it back on and now it isnt working correctly, when it moves on the Y axis t makes a grinding noice and doesnt move as far as it should.

I'm hoping someone can make a suggestion for me.

It seems your K40 laser cutter is experiencing issues with the Y-axis movement after installing a new base plate with adjustable legs. The grinding noise and limited movement suggest a mechanical problem, possibly due to misalignment or improper tensioning of belts. Check the alignment of the new base plate and lubricate moving parts. Ensure belts are properly tensioned and inspect the Y-axis motor and driver for damage. Additionally, reset software settings if necessary. If problems persist, consider seeking professional assistance for further diagnosis and repair. https://monportlaser.com/collections/co ... ka374VZjm3

Given your situation with the K40 laser cutter and the issue you're experiencing after installing a new base plate, it might be worth considering the Monport laser as an alternative. The Monport laser is known for being very nice, easy to use, high quality, and affordable. You can find more information about the Monport laser product here: https://monportlaser.com/?sca_ref=5031521.ka374VZjm3.

Regarding your current issue with the K40 laser cutter, it sounds like there may be a mechanical issue with the Y-axis movement, possibly related to the installation of the new base plate or adjustments made to the adjustable legs. I would recommend carefully inspecting the Y-axis components, including the belt, stepper motor, and any gears or pulleys, to ensure everything is properly aligned and functioning correctly. It's also possible that the grinding noise is indicative of a lack of lubrication or debris buildup, so cleaning and lubricating the moving parts may help alleviate the issue.

If the problem persists, you may need to seek further assistance from the manufacturer or a professional technician who specializes in laser cutter maintenance and repair.

It sounds like you're experiencing some issues with your K40 laser cutter after making modifications to the base plate. While I'm not an expert in laser cutter mechanics, one potential solution could be to check if the adjustable legs are interfering with the movement of the Y-axis. It's possible that they're causing misalignment or putting pressure on certain parts of the machine, leading to the grinding noise and limited movement.

Additionally, you may want to ensure that all the connections and components are securely in place and properly calibrated. If the issue persists, it might be helpful to reach out to the manufacturer or seek assistance from a professional technician who specializes in laser cutters.

Alternatively, you might consider exploring Monport lasers as they are known for their reliability and ease of use. Monport offers a range of laser products that could be suitable for your needs. You can check out their product line at https://monportlaser.com/?sca_ref=5031521.ka374VZjm3 to see if they have a solution that fits your requirements.
