Grayscale Engraving on Mini-60 20160503
Has anyone been able to successfully engrave in grayscale on a Thunderlaser machine using RDWorksV8 with a RDC6442G Controller?
I have attached the settings that I set on the RDWorksV8 program that fails with I try to engrave Grayscale every time.
Regards,
Mauri.

Hi Mauri,
the setting of engraving grayscale is the same as engraving a photo, please follow the guiding videos below:

Ken,
That is normal engraving and that is not an issue.
The ticking of "output direct" is supposed the Fire the Laser at in my example from 1% to 21% power levels depending on the grayscale 256 shades.
This on wood supposed to do 2.5 engraving and anodized supposed to do a close replica to a grayscale photo.
It works for a little while then fails with random X movement in and outside the photo being engraved.

Mauri.

Hi Mauri,
attachment is the test result and the settings by using our nova 35 with RF tube, i will try some more tests in the next days and upload again. by the way, do you have a RDC6442G Controller?
i remember that your mini 60 was with a df 212 before?
sincerely,
Ken

Ken,
Yes I have a RDC6442G and was told it should work.
Tom and I have been on this matter for some time with no results.
One thing I have noticed in your settings is that you Fire the Laser only once.
X_swing Fires the laser both ways as I have in my setup and fails.
X_unilaterism Fires the Laser only in the Forward X Movement and the Return X Movement.
So may be the issue is that the Controller cannot handle the amount of code being sent to it and overflows?
Please test with my X_swing settings on a Grayscale Photograph and see what happens.
Regards,
Mauri.

Hi Mauri,
Good day!
i did some more tests by using a NOVA 35 laser cutter with 80watt tube today, and it works ok. But i think the power is still kind of too low, max power 50% is better , i think. and X_unilaterism should have a better quality.
later i will upload the test pics, there's some problem with my PC now.

Ken,
Thank you for your testing, however these are small 2.5D examples.
Please try a normal 8bit grayscale photograph 8"x10" and maintain it as grayscale in RDWorksV8 using the same "Output Direct" settings as you last used and see if it completes the engraving process, you do not need to turn on the laser head.
I have 100% failure every time on even smaller photo engravings using this method.
I will also try a small example to see it this fails.
If you do not have a failure then I need to know all the settings on the RDWorksV8 software and controller settings.
Regards,
Mauri.

Hi Mauri,
you're welcome.
could you please send me one of your grayscale photo that fails?
then i can try your file directly.
and what do you mean by saying fail? do you mean the engraving quality is very bad?
my email is ken@thunderlaser.com
sincerely,
Ken

Ken,
For the benefit of others reading this subject.
I have sent the files to you and explained where they fail.
Laser Head mover erratically (Jitters) and moves all over the table both inside and outside of the engraving before causing a Controller Error and stopping the Laser.
On files that are up to 85MB (128MB-Operating System of Controller) if sending data via the PC Ethernet directly to the Controller via the "Start" and using XP Pro or Vista that will fail, however if Downloaded to the Controller they will run OK.
I do not have Windows 7 only XP Pro/Vista and Windows 10 PC's/NB.
If files are greater than above 85MB then they will fail no mater what Operating system you have.
Regards,
Mauri.

Re: Grayscale Engraving on Mini-60 20160503
Ken,
The Largest file (8Bit Grayscale with "Output Direct") that I have downloaded to the Controller then successfully run to completion is 95,876KB.
These type of files must be downloaded to the Controller and not sent via the "Start" as failure will occur, that is my experience with 100% failure using XP Pro and Vista operating systems and using the Ethernet connection.
Can you test it with Windows 7 or 10 using "Start" from RDWorksV8?
Regards,
Mauri.
